After years of traveling with an RV, we sold it when we retired. When we returned to road travel later, we still wanted a real bed, power, cold food, bathroom planning, and the other comforts that had made the RV useful. We just did not want to own and operate another large vehicle. Glampabout is the portable camping setup that grew out of that.

For more than twenty years, my wife and I ran Walkabout Travel Gear, which began in 1995. During those years we used an RV extensively as both transportation and a mobile base.
When we retired, we sold the RV. Later, when we returned to road travel, we still wanted the comfort but not the maintenance, storage, fuel, insurance, campsite restrictions, and work that come with a large vehicle.
That became Glampabouting: carry the bed, power, food storage, sanitation gear, and other comforts in a normal vehicle and set them up at camp.
RV travel can be great. We did plenty of it. But an RV also brings maintenance, storage, fuel, insurance, size restrictions, and the job of driving and parking a large vehicle.
Glampabouting keeps the parts we still want at camp: a comfortable place to sleep, shelter with room to move, cold food, portable power, airflow, sanitation, and a few extras when they are worth bringing. A short trip can stay simple; a longer stay can carry more.
The point is not fake wilderness hardship. The point is to travel in a normal vehicle, fit into more places, set up a comfortable camp, and leave without dragging an RV payment, storage problem, or maintenance schedule behind you.
